Instructions for the new Member Map Locator
How To Enter A New Marker:
- Go to the Community Walk “RX Club of Wisconsin Member Locator” map. It can be found at www.communitywalk.com/rxclubofwimembermap.
- You must sign up to enter data in the map. Click on “Sign Up” under the Build This Map tab in the upper left corner. Enter your information in the window that appears and follow the instructions.
- After you have signed up and logged in, you can enter your own marker(s) and personal data. You may not alter any other member’s marker or information. Begin by clicking “Add a marker” under the Build This Map tab.
- In the window that appears, choose the method to enter the location of your marker. I found the “click on the map” choice the easiest. You can zoom in on the map to get an exact location for your marker. Don’t worry; you can adjust its location later if you wish.
- After you have set the location, an information window will open. First, under the Basic tab, enter your city in the “title” box. Next, choose an icon from the Category dropdown list. There are icons for RX-8’s and RX-7’s by color. If your color is not shown, let John Ferrell know via a message on the Club Forum, and an appropriate one will be made. Meanwhile, pick another one for this process. It can be changed later. Next, in the description box, enter any personal information you wish, such as your name, forum name, car description, etc. The Address and Details tabs can also be used to enter additional information. You can enter as much or as little as you wish. Then click “save”.
- After completing the above, your marker should show up on the map with a “balloon window” which allows you edit, move, add a photo, or delete your marker. You can hide the balloon by clicking on the x in the upper right corner of the balloon. Your information will also be listed in the Categorized Markers list to the left of the map.
- To add photos to your data, choose “add photo” from the balloon or your categorized markers listing. In the window that opens you can add photos by choosing a photo file from your computer, or selecting photos from an online photo gallery like Flickr or Photobucket. It’s probably best to choose photos that have been optimized for the web, i.e., ones that are less than 1mB in size. Larger photos might not load. The first photo that is added is the one that shows up in your Categorized Markers listing. Viewers can cycle through your photos by clicking on the photo in the Categorized Markers list or from the balloon window.
If you have any questions, contact John Ferrell.
